From announce at mail.sfccp.net Wed Dec 20 01:14:16 2006 From: announce at mail.sfccp.net (San Francisco Community Colocation Project Announcements) Date: Tue, 19 Dec 2006 22:14:16 -0800 Subject: [sfccp] SF Community Colo -- Now Accepting New Clients Message-ID: <20061220061416.GL98499@linefeed.org> December 19 2006 Project Update San Francisco Community Colocation Project --------------------------------------------- Please find below a number of updates about SFCCP and information about how to get involved. 1) WE HAVE SIGNED A COLO AGREEMENT, WE START MOVING IN THIS WEEK This week, we made a significant step forward by finalizing a colocation agreement with a local, community-oriented bandwidth provider. The facility is located in the downtown San Francisco South of Market area. We will begin moving some machines this week and we are now scheduling move-in dates for new clients. 2) WE ARE NOW ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS While we are still finalizing terms of service and actual pricing, we are able to begin processing new clients and scheduling move-in dates. Ideally, we want to schedule move-in dates for most clients beginning the week of January 8th. But, we can accommodate earlier move-ins. For specific instructions on signing up with SFCCP, please see item #4. 3) A WORD ABOUT PRICING Basically, we are pricing out collectively-purchased bandwidth. This presents a tricky situation -- it is a mix of space usage, power consumption and bandwidth rates. We are developing a pricing model based on the Seattle CCP with the specific costs from our provider. The price will be a standard formula so everyone will be paying their fair share of the total cost. We are finalizing this formula within the next few days. 4) HOW TO SIGN UP AS A NEW CLIENT Please send a note to org at mail.sfccp.net and we will email you an application package within a few days. You fill out this app and we will give you a pricing quote based on your particular servers (please see item #3 for more info). Then, we'll schedule a move-in date and that's it! NOTE: If you've already sent a note about colocating with us, no need to send another. 5) SYSADMIN/OPS GROUP NOW FORMING -- VOLUNTEERS NEEDED If you are interested in being a sysadmin/operations volunteer for SFCCP and you are NOT yet signed up on the coordination mailing list, please sign up for it - http://mail.sfccp.net/lists/listinfo/sysadmins 6) GETTING ON OUR FEET: CRITICAL START-UP DONATIONS We are happy to announce that several initial donations are making our first few months of getting things together a little easier -- the Global Indymedia Fund, Houston Indymedia, Argentina Indymedia and the Linefeed group have all made donations to SFCCP. A big thank you to these organizations for their help in getting things going. If you can contribute any money or equipment, please email org at mail.sfccp.net -- everything is tax-deductible and this is a critical time for us. We will continue to send updates like this, especially as we enter the move-in period for new clients beginning in January.
