From announce at mail.sfccp.net Wed Sep 5 16:14:03 2007 From: announce at mail.sfccp.net (San Francisco Community Colocation Project Announcements) Date: Wed, 5 Sep 2007 13:14:03 -0700 Subject: [sfccp-announce] Update on DDOS Attack Message-ID: <20070905201403.GA72790@linefeed.org> SFCCP UPDATE: Distributed denial-of-service attack might have affected some clients --------------------------------------------------------------------- On Tuesday, September 4th, starting around 3:30PM, a distributed denial-of-service attack was launched against some machines hosted at SFCCP. This was part of a coordinated attack targeting a particular organization with machines at San Francisco CCP and Seattle CCP -- both colos were affected. You may have noticed some packet loss or latency during the attack because our network was flooded. The problem has been identified and the targeted server's IP address was blocked at the router. We are continuing to deal with the attack but it should no longer be affecting any other clients. If you host a website with Linefeed or Indymedia at SFCCP, you should check directly with Linefeed regarding the status of their webserver. Websites on that server will continue to experience some downtime throughout today. If you have any questions, please e-mail colo at sfccp.net or visit us on IRC -- see http://www.sfccp.net/wiki/IrcChannel --------------------------------------------------------------------- While we're at it, here is a shameless plug from the sysadmins group: The SFCCP Sysadmins Group is actively seeking sysadmin volunteers with some time to donate to the cause! We will be holding an open IRC meeting on Monday, September 10th at 6:30PM. For more details, see: http://www.sfccp.net/wiki/SysadminsMeetings For more information about the sysadmins group in general, see: http://www.sfccp.net/wiki/Sysadmins From announce at mail.sfccp.net Thu Sep 20 13:25:23 2007 From: announce at mail.sfccp.net (San Francisco Community Colocation Project Announcements) Date: Thu, 20 Sep 2007 10:25:23 -0700 Subject: [sfccp-announce] Power Outage Update Message-ID: <20070920172522.GB10741@linefeed.org> SFCCP Update: Power outage at colo affecting all clients --------------------------------------------------------------------- Last night, Wednesday, September 19th, there were two power 'blips' at the colo which affected all clients. The first happened around 5:50PM and the second happened at 7:30PM. The local CBS affiliate, KPIX, had this report: "Power has been restored to all but four customers after equipment failure and blown fuses turned the lights off for more than 1,500 customers Wednesday night in San Francisco's South of Market neighborhood, according to a Pacific Gas & Electric Co. spokesman. The outage began at around 5:50 p.m. and affected PG&E customers along Townsend Street between First and Sixth streets and Fourth Street between Townsend and Brannan streets, PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi said." Our colo facility has back-up power and we are currently investigating with our uplink provider why these systems did not kick in. In addition, the SFCCP server at the colo experienced some problems and we are currently working on it. Until this server is back online, there will be an outage in reverse DNS services and the SFCCP website will be offline. We will send another update when we have more information. This may be a good time to plug the System Administrators Group! We need volunteer sysadmins who can help deal with problems like these!
